ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN)—For the last 30-years, Matt Rodgers has been a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and
finally principal for six years at Enterprise High School.

In the summer of 2017, he was named the President of Enterprise State Community College until his
retirement due to medical reasons last month.

On Wednesday, Rodgers died at 50 years old of rectal-colon cancer. It was a year since he was diagnosed with the disease.

The current EHS principal, stan sauls, was a long-time friend and colleague. He says Rodgers “loved” the kids,
and they along with the community is a “better place” due to his presence in the education.

Mike Gurspan says “many people know William Cooper as the mayor of Enterprise, but he would like to be known as a music instructor and band director for a number of years, but he and Matt Rodgers were good friends.”

Cooper says “he was a very personal friend, and I can say this whatever mark was made at Enterprise High School and whatever mark was made at Enterprise State Community College will be a lasting impression of Matt Rodgers.”

Rodgers leaves behind a wife, Stacy, and a son Liam.

    Funeral arrangements are now complete.

On Thursday, visitation will be from 10 in the morning till noon at The First Baptist Church of Enterprise.

The funeral service will be at noon at the church. If you can’t attend the service, the church will “live stream” it.

A private burial will be held in the New Brockton city cemetery. Rodgers is a New Brockton native, who graduated from the high school there.
